with. If you are interested in this program, make me a reasonable
offer. Call Mike at (617)-646-7741, or leave E-mail at mtassone@aol.com

Subject: CD-ROM interface with GUS
I have had a GUS card for over a year now. I recently purchased a CD-ROM
drive, but my problem is after pluging the audio cable from the ROM drive into
the GUS card I only receive a mono signal from one speaker. But if I plug the
audio into the CD-ROM card I get stereo, but this doesn't help my CD games.
Can anyone give me assistance?

Subject: Digital recording w GUS
I just thought I'd mention that tonite I recorded a MIDI song of mine
from my GUS to a friend's DAT for his use in a film he's making. And it
recorded/sounded great! We hooked the DAT back up to my stereo for playback.
I havent had the chance to hook my GUS directly to my new stereo yet (no
phone jack in the room with the stereo, so cant afford to move the computer)
but the GUS records great on a digital recorder!!!

Subject: GUS & Pentiums
Have there been any problems reported on using a GUS in Pentiums?
Right now, I'm developing a game on 486DX2-66 machines and plan to move up
to a Pentium within 6 months or so. Has the upcoming UltraMax been tested
on Pentiums?
Also, can two GUS's exist in the same machine?
And lastly, is a 1 meg GUS sufficient for excellent MIDI and digital
playback? Or should I resort to a Roland SC/GUS combo? Speed and ease of
programmability are also to be taken into consideration also.
Just wondering,

I had strange MIDI problems too, which I seem to have pinpointed down to this:
After you play a song that fades out (like stuff from awesome.zip), the MIDI
driver remembers the faded-out position on reset and keeps muting channels.
This means you either don't hear a thing or maybe several channels sound off.
I solve this by keeping a properly sequenced Roland MIDI file around (say
stuff from SCDEMOS.ZIP) which resets all of the controllers before it starts.
As to WinMOD, well it's a hopeless case. Get MODUS or play DMP through a
DOS Window - WMP doesn't mix in hardware and hence slows donw the system like
hell.

Hello all Gussers,
I was wondering are there any MIDI or MOD's (preferably midi's) that are
available via ftp from THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.
Thanks, you may respond email <fletcj@tenfwd.uci.com> or here to the digest.

Subject: Emulators, drivers & .INI files...
Date sent: 17-FEB-1994 16:55:16
Simon says: It's a real mess but it's Fun!..
Having been playing around with Megaem and the syndicate AIL drivers for a
while I'm getting more and more frustrated at trying create custom
configurations.. whatever I do I can't get the replacement patches to work in
X-Wing, and my attempts to change patches.ini for syndicate were a disaster.
What I would like to know is, which .ini files are used by which driver in
which order? Does Megaem use ultrasnd.ini or ultramid.ini? How can I get my own
custom patches in syndicate? it woud seem that u can only use the GM set.. as
the only people using the 32bit drivers would have to have download access and
therefore probably have an ultrasnd.ini with Patch Banks, why does loadpats
only use the default GM set? It would only take a few more lines of code to
implement loading from other banks.....
I only have 256k, I expect that is the X-wing problem, but an answer to the
AIL32 query would be most welcome.
BTW, I think the car noise in the victory scene of syndicate is a *sample* not
a patch, I seem to remember hearing it under sbos, and when I played around
with the sound libraries in a sample editor....I could be wrong...?
Thanks in advance,
mail to below unless its *really* good, then share it!
Si.

From: cgd@ecmwf.co.uk (Dick Dixon)
Subject: Megaem + Ballade and/or Lemmings 2
Quick question: has anyone experience with using
the Ballade package with Megaem? It will generate
noises using the 'test' facilities in the patch
editor, but freezes up if I try to play music.
Also Lemmings 2: with both SBOS and Megaem, the
music is fine, but in the loading phase, it displays
(something like) 'FX initialisation failed'.
No amount of fiddling with DMA and IRQ appears to work.
The GUS has 1024k and works fine in most other situations.
Any advice? (I did look in the FAQ first, honest...)
Cheers.

Subject: New GUS owner with questions!
The GUS is awesome, but I still have a few questions/problems...
1) Where do I get the drivers to make Simcity 2000 work? What's the filename?
2) Where can I get a demo to try 3D Sound?
Hmm, that's all I can think of right now, thanks for the help!
